Pictures tell the story on this....almost. It appears to be brass. Also on the back, under the maker's name, Crafters, Inc Chicago are some symbols. At first I thought this was a reproduction and the symbols were actually a year,  but on closer inspection I saw the symbols. I don't know what they stand for.
